Connections Speech-Language Therapy of Boerne is the culmination
of a dream for Kathy Webster, the owner and speech-language
pathologist. Kathy was born and raised in the San Antonio
area. She graduated in 1976 as Valedictorian of her class
at Somerset High School, just south of San Antonio. She attended
University of Texas at Austin for one year as a Communications
major. However, as she did volunteer work at a State School
for the Mentally Retarded in Austin, she discovered her passion:
working with children, especially children with special needs.
So she transferred to Southwest Texas State University (now
Texas State University) to major in Special Education with
a concentration in Speech Pathology. In her senior year at
SWTSU, Kathy was designated as the first recipient of the
Empress Y. Zedler Scholarship. She graduated in 1980 “With
Highest Honors” and a Bachelor of Science in Education.
Kathy attended Memphis State University (now University
of Memphis) for graduate school because of their outstanding
reputation in the field of speech-language pathology and
audiology. She graduated “With Honors” in December
1981 with a Master of Arts degree in Speech Pathology.
While working as a speech-language pathologist, Kathy continued
her education at Trinity University and UTSA, taking graduate
classes in education and school administration and earning
the following Texas Educator Certificates: Supervisor (Grades
PK-12), Special Education Supervisor (Grades PK-12), Mid-Management
Administrator (Grades PK-12), and Classroom Teacher—Special
Education Supplemental (Grades PK-12).
Kathy’s work experience is in San Antonio, Texas
serving preschool, elementary, and middle school students.
She was an employee of Northside I.S.D. for 21 years. She
has also worked for Christus Santa Rosa in their out-patient
rehabilitation clinic and done private contract work for
various other agencies on a part-time basis.
Kathy, her husband, and two children moved to Boerne, Texas
in 1993. She recognized the need for speech therapy services
in her local community. In May 2006, Kathy resigned her position
with Northside I.S.D. to open her own private practice. She
purchased the most up-to-date tests and professional materials,
and dedicated one room of the family home as an office and
speech therapy treatment room. Then, in April 2009, she moved
her business to a brand new office condominium in the Scenic
Loop Business Center, just a half-mile from Interstate 10
in Boerne. She feels blessed to have the support of her husband
of 23 years, Dan, and her two children. |
